Hello!  My name is Matthew Harbert, I’ve been working in web development for over 12 years.  I am a front end / back end developer, with stronger emphasis toward the front end.  Lately I’ve been focusing on WordPress development, from the normal tasks, to theme and plugin customization.  I have also worked on custom php implementations, both inside and outside of WordPress.  PHP, Joomla!, and Big Commerce have been other platforms I have built websites on.  If you’d like any more information please contact me.

There are many reasons to use WordPress - ease of use, customizability, a large plugin library. The use of this platform can save tons of hours when compared to a custom coded solution. When in the right hands, WordPress can be a great way to get a site up that is clean, well coded, and functional in an efficient manner.

I speak people

One thing I've noticed in my time doing this, is that it's just as important to have good communication and workflow as a person, as it is to be a talented programmer or developer. No one wants to have hours spent on a project, that could have been avoided if the communication was clear. Whether it's just a matter of following up on a question, or optimizing workflow in Trello, Slack, or Asana, it's important to me to make sure we are using the best of our time, and that the communication is clear.

A major client of mine for the last few years liked sites to be highly optimized. This helps with organic search rankings. I will work to make a new or existing site slim, looking for font redundancies, image compression, unnecessary javascript, and get that site as slim and fast as possible to improve the user experience and also help your search results. I want the YSLOW and Pagespeed score (as well as other factors) to show a nice, highly optimized site.

It is just as important to have clear communication as it is to be good at the web development aspect. That's the advantage of an English proficient developer, and that's the advantage of a developer who is a people person with tons of project management experience.
